CUREosity GmbH, the innovative medical technology company from Düsseldorf, is pleased to announce its collaboration with HanseMerkur Health Insurance. Effective immediately, HanseMerkur’s fully insured policyholders with neurological and orthopedic conditions across Germany can access state-of-the-art virtual reality-based physiotherapy and occupational therapy with CUREO®. This therapy approach is suitable for a wide range of diagnoses, including Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and multiple sclerosis, enhancing rehabilitation efficiency while offering patients access to cutting-edge treatment options.
“With CUREO®, patients can focus on their individual therapy needs in a motivating, interactive environment. During therapy, they receive immediate visual and auditory feedback, allowing them to track their progress, stay engaged, and work toward essential therapy goals,”explains Caesar van Heyningen, CEO of CUREOSITY. For example, a patient with motor impairments following a stroke can virtually pick fruit by raising their arms and performing precise movements. This exercise specifically improves strength, coordination, and range of motion, while gamified elements enhance enjoymentand motivation. Thanks to the immersive nature of Virtual Reality (VR),patients remain engaged in therapy for longer periods and benefit from an effective, modern form of treatment.
HanseMerkur Health Insurance is the first private health insurer to reimburse CUREO® therapy. Fully insured policyholders with specific neurological and orthopedic conditions can now access VR therapy with just a physician’s prescription for physiotherapy or occupational therapy. The treatment is available at CUREOSITY’s partner practices, which are located across Germany. The billing process follows standard procedures, allowing policyholders to submit their therapy costs to HanseMerkur for reimbursement according to their tariff.
Patients can visit CUREOSITY’s website to find partner practices offering Virtual Reality Therapy (VR Therapy). What sets CUREO® apart is its combination of traditional therapy methods with neuroscience-based findings on neuroplasticity. “Through targeted, evidence-based exercises in a virtual environment, CUREO® enhances the therapeutic process in multiple ways. The therapy not only addresses motor functions but also cognitive and perceptual functions, supporting a holistic rehabilitation approach,” emphasizes Dr. Katarina Buchmann, Reimbursement & Medical Affairs at CUREOSITY. The ability to tailor exercises to individual abilities and therapy goals makes this treatment highly adaptable and effective – all under the expert guidance of trained therapy professionals.
HanseMerkur also sees significant potential in this new therapy option. Folke Tedsen, Head of Benefits & Health Management, states: “Our partnership with CUREOSITY aligns with our mission as an innovative health insurer. It enables us to offer our customers an advanced and efficient therapy method that significantly improves the rehabilitation process. Our goal is to support faster medical recovery compared to standard therapies – in a way that motivates patients and is more enjoyable than conventional exercises in a clinical setting.”
“We are delighted to have HanseMerkur as a strong partner by our side to drive forward our vision of modern rehabilitation and provide more patients with access to innovative therapies,” says Caesar van Heyningen.
