CUREOsity GmbH is pleased to share the latest developments at our partner, DIPLOMA University. Following a successful review process as part of its accreditation in March 2024, the university will, for the first time, offer a pioneering course in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) within its physiotherapy studies. The new module, titled “Innovative media and technical approaches in therapy,” will complement the existing curriculum by introducing particularly innovative therapeutic approaches.
Thomas Saur, CVO of CUREOSITY, commented: “We are delighted that the next generation of physiotherapists will now also be trained in using innovative, cutting-edge methods, and that VR therapy using CUREO®is part of the course content at DIPLOMA University’s physiotherapy degree program. By teaching the theory and application of VR therapy, students are optimally prepared for their future careers, as more and more clinics and practices are already using CUREO® in rehabilitation.”
The Physiotherapy (B.Sc.) program at DIPLOMA University—a state-recognized private institution—aims to equip students with both scientific knowledge and practical skills to meet professional standards. Graduates receive a generalist qualification, enabling them to work in various fields of physiotherapy, including hospitals, therapy centers, or as independent practitioners.
In March 2024, the course successfully underwent a review and was reaccredited. As part of this process, the latest therapeutic methods have now been permanently integrated into the curriculum. Beginning with the new semester in October 2024, the course will be enhanced by the module “Innovative media and technical approaches in therapy,” which includes the theory and application of VR and AR.
Prof. Dr. Christoph Egner, Dean of Physiotherapy Studies, remarked: “In line with DIPLOMA’s motto, ‘Building bridges to success,’ we are collaborating with Düsseldorf-based CUREOsity GmbH and incorporating the well-established VR therapy software CUREO® into the curriculum. In times of increasing patient demand, such innovative technologies are crucial in easing the burden on physiotherapists while ensuring the best possible care for patients.”
By integrating this module and utilizing CUREO®, DIPLOMA reinforces its commitment to promoting forward-thinking educational approaches. Students not only have the opportunity to learn using CUREO®, but also to actively engage in research on VR therapy. This allows aspiring physiotherapists to familiarize themselves with the latest therapy concepts and develop a deeper understanding of them. Graduates will then bring this knowledge and expertise into practice, contributing to the digital transformation of the healthcare system and positioning it for the future.
Prof. Dr. Egner added: “Our goal is to fully prepare students for the challenges of professional life. VR therapy with CUREO® supports physiotherapists in their work with various exciting functionalities. Our graduates will enter the workforce with an advanced knowledge of these new technologies, allowing them to introduce innovations to their employers rather than needing to learn them through additional training.”
